Artwork - Last Supper
The artwork “The Last Supper” was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1495 – 1498. This painting was made in Milan. This painting is huge and covers a hole wall surface. This Supper was considered the first Eucharist. Jesus took the bread and wine and asked God his father for his blessings. Jesus said “This is my body and blood and you will do this in memory of me”. Then he passed the cup and bread to all his disciples. The title explains everything because it is the last supper that Jesus had with the disciples before he was crusifed. The names of all the disciples seated left to right are Bartholomew, James Minor, Andrew, Judas, Peter, John, Thomas, James Major, Philip, Matthew, Thaddeus and Simon. The bread and wine represent Communion and the presence of God. God is remembered in many ways. He is remembered when we go to mass every week, and we have communion. God also reminds us about eating our daily meals. We have to be thankful that we have the food in front of us. God is the one that makes all of our natural foods. Everything that we eat comes from God. At “The Last Supper”, Jesus asked God to bless our food and drink so that we have the nourishment and strength to live as God’s followers. God is represented through Jesus’ prayers and sharing of the Eucharist.
