“Christ the redeemer” is a statue that was constructed between 1926 and 1931 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is on the Peak of Corcovado Mountain, overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is a statue of Jesus Christ. It is the largest art deco statue in the world. It is 38 meters tall, and the arms on the statue stretch 28 meters. The arms opened wide are a symbol of peace. Everyone who sees the statue knows they are seeing a sight of Rio de Janeiro. It is a statue that reflects Christianity.
The building of “Christ the redeemer” was organized in 1920 by the Catholic Circle of Rio, who collected money for its construction.
I believe that this statue is one of the most beautiful statues in the world. The way it overlooks the city is breath taking and heart warming. In many ways it reminds me of St. Joseph’s Oratory, because of the way it overlooks the city. You can see both “Christ the Redeemer” statue and St. Joseph’s Oratory from miles away.
The definition of redeemer in Christianity is “of Christ as Savior to free mankind from sin by his death on the cross”. People of the world must know and love God as the Creator and Redeemer of the universe. God forgives all and gives us people second chances. What a wonderful reminder this landmark gives the people of Rio de Janeiro, that peace is around them. God has his arms opened wide welcoming us into his kingdom of heaven. As the priest at mass opens his arms and says “let us pray” so does the statue.
“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God” This quote, author unknown, truly reflects the faith that Christianity holds. So if you believe and live your life as a Christian, you will be forgiven for your sins on earth and be given a place in heaven. I therefore believe the statue “Christ the redeemer” gives people of Rio de Janeiro, a constant reminder that God is always around, just as St. Joseph’s Oratory gives me the same reminder.
